The essentials in 5 points

1. Deadline

Applications from 17 July to 10 September 2026, until 17:00. A fixed deadline, submitted through the Balcão dos Fundos.

2. How much

50% of eligible costs for SMEs in operations outside buildings (ACIF-CCIM), up to €300,000 per project — €450,000 in the tourism sector (text of the call). For works on the building itself the base rate is 30%, plus 20 percentage points for micro and small firms (10 points for medium-sized) and a further 15 points (SME) where the building’s energy performance improves by at least 40% in primary energy — the top of the scale is 65%.

3. Who it is for

Micro, small, medium and large companies from any eligible sector of activity, with organised accounts. Hospitality qualifies. Budget of the call: €11.6 million — €10 million FEDER plus €1.6 million from the Region’s own budget (Madeira 2030).

4. What it covers in a café/restaurant

Investment that lowers energy consumption and emissions:

Focus = energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Digitalisation (POS, online orders) does NOT belong here — it has its own programme. But note the distinction: software, licences and sensors for energy monitoring and management are an eligible cost under SIEED — what is excluded is POS and pre-ordering.

5. The mistake to avoid

See the golden rule below. It is what most often costs people the grant.

Golden rule: do not buy the equipment or sign contracts before submitting the application. Whatever is bought before submission stops being eligible. With the deadline on 10 September, plan now — but submit before you invest.

How to move, before 10 September

1. List the equipment to be bought (refrigeration, climate control, lighting, kitchen). 2. Ask suppliers for proformas (not invoices). 3. Gather the company documents (regularised standing, SME certificate). 4. Submit through the Balcão dos Fundos before buying. An independent consultant can run the application; the grant covers the investment, the support work is charged separately.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to apply for SIEED in Madeira?

Applications to call M2030-2026-21 (SIEED – Energy Efficiency 2030) run from 17 July to 10 September 2026, until 17:00. It is a fixed deadline, submitted through Balcão dos Fundos.

Exactly how much does SIEED cover?

Outside buildings, 50% of eligible costs for SMEs. For works on the building itself the base rate is 30%, plus 20 percentage points for micro and small firms (10 points for medium-sized) and a further 15 points (SME) where the building's energy performance improves by at least 40% in primary energy — the top of the scale is 65%. Ceiling of €300,000 per project, €450,000 in tourism, with a minimum eligible spend of €50,000.

Can the deadline be extended?

The call sets 10 September 2026, 17:00. Plan for it as a firm deadline and do not count on an extension.

I have a small café — is it worth it?

Yes, if you are going to invest in refrigeration/climate control/lighting. 50% co-funding on eligible costs changes the maths of the investment. But mind the minimum: the project’s eligible spend must be at least €50,000 — a single replacement rarely reaches it, a package of measures does. The upper limit (300k/450k) is a ceiling, not a minimum.

What about automating/digitalising the café?

It does not fall under SIEED (which is about energy). Digitalisation has its own support within Portugal 2030 / Madeira 2030 — see the general guide to grants.

Where do I confirm the figures?

In the text of call M2030-2026-21 and on the madeira.portugal2030.pt / IDE portal. This alert points to the primary source.

What is eligible under SIEED for hospitality?

Investments that cut energy use and emissions: efficient refrigeration and climate control, LED lighting, low-consumption kitchen equipment, renewables. It also includes software, licences and sensors for energy monitoring and management. It does not include POS or pre-ordering — that commercial digitalisation has its own programme.

What mistake loses the grant?

Buying the equipment before submitting the application. Spending incurred before submission stops being eligible. Apply first, buy afterwards.
